ARRIVAL INFORMATION

This document will provide you with information about how you can get to Växjö and Kalmar from various airports in Sweden and Denmark.

If you arrive in Växjö or Kalmar during the official arrival days you will be picked up the airport/train station as long as you have given your arrival time to Linnaeus University.


From Stockholm – Arlanda

Currently there are no flights from Arlanda Airport to Växjö (Småland Airport). If you arrive to Arlanda take the bus (www.flygbussarna.se) to Stockholm Central. You can either pre-book your train ticket online at www.sj.se (the site is available in English) or purchase it at the train station. Online you can either buy an e-ticket or get a code, which you can use at the ticket machines at the train station in order to get your ticket.
The departure station is ”Stockholm C” and the arrival station is ”Växjö Station” or ”Kalmar Station” respectively.

Never board a train without a ticket since the different companies responsible for the train traffic have different rules. Some allow that you purchase a ticket on the train, some don’t. If they don’t allow it and you don’t have a valid ticket you will be forced to pay a penalty fee.


From Stockholm – Bromma
By plane: There are domestic fligths from Bromma to Kalmar and Växjö with the company BRA Flyg, https://www.flygbra.se

Either book a flight to your destination from Bromma or take the bus (www.flygbussarna.se) from the airport to Stockholm Central. You can either pre-book your train ticket online at www.sj.se (the site is available in English) or purchase it at the train station. Online you can either buy an e-ticket or get a code, which you can use at the ticket machines at the train station in order to get your ticket.

From Gothenburg – Landvetter

There are no flights from Landvetter Airport to Växjö (Småland Airport) or to Kalmar Öland Airport.

You can take the flight bus (www.flygbussarna.se) from the airport to get to ”Nils Erikson Terminal” in the heart of Gothenburg. In the same building, you have train and bus connections to Växjö and Kalmar.

By train: You can pre-book your train ticket online at www.sj.se (the site is available in English) or purchase it at the train station. Online you can either buy an e-ticket or get a code, which you can use at the ticket machines at the train station in order to get your ticket.

From Gothenburg – Göteborg City Airport

There are no flights from Göteborg City Airport to Växjö (Småland Airport) or to Kalmar Öland Airport.

From Copenhagen – Kastrup
You can either pre-book a train ticket at http://www.oresundstag.se/ or www.sj.se (the sites are available in English), or you can purchase a ticket once you arrive at the airport but not at the train. Look for the DSB-Office in the arrivals’ hall. The train platforms are located on the ground floor in the arrivals’ hall, Trains leave about once per hour and will cost about 400-500 SEK. If you book online, there are two possible stops in Copenhagen and you should look for ”Köbenhavns Lufthavn/Kastrup or Copenhagen airport”. The arrival station is ”Växjö Station” or ”Kalmar Station” respectively.

Arriving to campus Kalmar
In Kalmar the university as well as the student union and Kalmarhem are centrally located and easy to find. Once arriving to Kalmar go to Kalmarhem if you have arranged your housing with them. Their address is Larmtorget 3. Visit their website for more information; www.kalmarhem.se 
If you have arranged housing with another company make sure you know how to find their office and how to receive the keys. 
If you arrive late or on a weekend you need to stay at a hostel or a hotel. Book it in advance since there are many other students in the same situation looking for short term options. Note that this doesn’t apply if you have arranged your housing with Linnaeus University, only if you have arranged accommodation on your own.  For information on hostels, hotels etc. go to http://www.kalmar.com/

If you wish to become a member of Linnéstudenterna (the student union) visit our office. It is open 11-13 Mon to Fri and is located at Nygatan 18A (in the same building as the university library). Please note that in order to register you as a member you need to bring your Swedish personal number given to you by the university. Most of the activities organized for international students in Kalmar are hosted by ESN Kalmar. Together with the university they organize introduction activities that you can take part in. Arriving to campus Växjö

In Växjö the university campus is located outside the city center and you reach the area by bus. Once arriving in Växjö you go to the bus platforms. Bus no 3 that goes to the campus leaves from bus stop A every 10 minutes during daytime Mon-Fri. On evenings and weekends buses leave every hour. Buy a cash card called “reskassa” to travel as cheap as possible. Buy this card on the bus or inside the train station. The local bus company don’t like dealing with cash so a one-way ticket costs 44 SEK while a trip paid with the cash card costs about 20 SEK. When arriving to the campus, get off the bus at the bus stop called Universitetsplatsen. If you have arranged housing with any of the housing companies providing housing on campus you have already agreed with them when and how to fetch your keys. Just make sure to arrive during their office hours.
